Alexander, Dawn Chandler, and Nijole Rassmussen (who I may have mentioned once before!)

Another favorite of mine is botanical art, and since fall is the time for finding interesting leaves in all shapes and colors, why not use that to my advantage? I am planning several ink and pencil drawings that will incorporate interesting leave shapes and textures, such as this one I did during a little sketch practice in September.

For those of you wondering where I have been, my partner and I are in the process of buying and later moving into a new home, which we are of course VERY excited about. In the meantime, here is a collection of art and artsy things to look at and read about. Including this article from Colossal featuring beautiful photographs by Julieanne Kost.

<![CDATA[faces, faces, more faces...]]>Wed, 24 Feb 2016 14:01:49 GMThttp://jennizart.com/blog/faces-faces-more-faces
I'm all the way to #20! If you've been keeping up and counting my faces, you'll notice one is missing. That would be a digital image that I haven't uploaded from my tablet just yet. You know, technology.

<![CDATA[Nine faces]]>Fri, 12 Feb 2016 14:00:25 GMThttp://jennizart.com/blog/nine-faces
So far I'm nine faces into the 29Faces challenge! I'm a few behind, but I'm hoping the weekend might be kind to my creativity. Can you guess which one is my favorite?

<![CDATA[New art, new faces!´╗┐]]>Mon, 08 Feb 2016 14:03:08 GMThttp://jennizart.com/blog/new-art-new-facesIt is now week 2 of the 29Faces challenge, and I have to admit it has definitely been a challenge, My subject of choice is usually much more abstract, and either a tree or a skyline, or even the moon and stars. So, when I tell my brain that we are going to draw a face and not a group of purple trees, my brain does this rebelling thing for a bit, and then gets to work. Some of the results of last week's let's-draw-faces-and-not-trees arguments are below:
Also, in keeping with my personal challenge and promise to make more art this year, I finished two small acrylics on canvas this weekend, I haven't named them yet, other than the tree one and the building one. They need better names.

<![CDATA[Theme week, and other things...]]>Tue, 02 Feb 2016 13:58:45 GMThttp://jennizart.com/blog/theme-week-and-other-thingsPicture
It's the beginning of the month, which means it's Theme Week on eBay, sponsored by the ACEO (Art Cards,Editions and Originals) Group. For about a week, there will be quite a number of listings showcasing the current theme, which is Woodland/Woodland Creatures. The pieces are in a variety of styles and media, from acrylic abstracts to whimsical pencil drawings. These original art cards are listed at various prices so there is art for for every budget.

We are in day two (2) of the February 2016 29 Faces Challenge! I have begun my journey and hope to be very much improved in my portrait drawing by the end of the month! Stay in touch for pics and progress!

<![CDATA[Circles, more Circles, and midnight blue...]]>Mon, 25 Jan 2016 14:00:10 GMThttp://jennizart.com/blog/circles-more-circles-and-midnight-blueHello again! I made a promise to myself at the beginning of this year (sorry, not calling it a resolution - I don't do those.) that I would create at least one piece of art per week. So far it's going...OK. I'm still working on actually coming up with one item a week, which is really sad considering there are artists who create a painting each day. Anyhow, I feel like I'm being more creative these days than I have been in some time. I've got a few works in progress going -
- which right now consist of an ACEO in marker that I'm working on during breaks during my adventures in the land of day people, as well as some potential really way cool acrylic on canvas pieces, which I really can't work on during my day job, because really - there's no room at my desk for that.

In other artsy news, you may have noticed the new button on my home page. Beginning February 1, I will be participating the "29 Faces" challenge. Yes, I, who have trouble creating one piece per week, will be drawing, painting, or otherwise somehow creating a portrait every day in February of 2016. Stay tuned to this page for progress!

Well, art friends, that is all I have to throw at you today. Keep creating and enjoying art and keep coming back!

<![CDATA[stumbling into 2016...]]>Mon, 11 Jan 2016 13:49:58 GMThttp://jennizart.com/blog/stumbling-into-2016We are now in the 2nd full week of the new year, and so far I've accomplished not being tempted by chocolate once. My new year's resolutions are going great. Oh also - I haven't created in a quite a while - apparently I'm in a bit of an art rut.
In the meantime, I've browsed the information highway for bits and pieces of inspiration, and I hope maybe what I've found gives your creativity a little boost as well.

Can you imagine being able to paint using just one tenth of the pigments in this library? I mean, how cool would that be?
I've found a great blog full of wonderful abstract paintings - each from a different artist - today I'm sharing this alcohol ink painting and this amazing pastel work.

Of course, inspiration can be in black and white, as well. I just love the detail in these drawings.

So, with these colors and lines pushing me to push through the fog and create, I am packing up a few art supplies every day and carrying them with me. My goal is to at least try to create one piece a week. This week we are starting off small, perhaps an art card in pen or marker?
